Austin's Before I Die Wall

At South of Congress, this mural is a popular photo op for tourists and locals alike. Resembling a postcard design, it typically attracts a small crowd.

This mural honors musician Daniel Johnston, who endured mental health challenges and passed away in September 2019.

Austin is home to some of the most iconic street art pieces, and this postcard-shaped mural stands out as one of them. Situated near Roadhouse Relics in South Austin, visitors often take photographs here and many tourists make this spot part of their itinerary for taking photos.

The painted mural takes inspiration from large letter postcards popular during the 1930s to 1950s and depicts several landmarks of Austin such as Barton Springs, Congress Avenue Bridge and Texas State Capitol.

This wall is a popular photo op and has attracted many celebrities. Additionally, it serves as an exhibition space for local artists. Best of all, visiting this mural is free and an invaluable part of any Austin trip! You can find it near Roadhouse Relics on 1st Street; its offbeat location makes it worth your while!

2. You Make My Heart Sing

Nestled into the corner where quiet residential streets merge with South Congress' bustle lies this striking piece of public art: a passionate declaration of love with classic lyrics and fun script. A wonderful spot for sweet photos or emotive Instagram posts!

The Before I Die Wall is an international art initiative designed to inspire individuals to express their goals and dreams in public settings. The Austin location was inaugurated at DiverseCity, an affordable housing complex in East Austin. Candy Chang, an artist and urban planner, designed and led this concept.

Jo's Coffee offers a romantic wall that draws tourists, locals, and couples alike to write their wishes in gold letters on its surface and take pictures as souvenirs of this experience. 3. Willie For President

At the intersection of residential streets and South Congress Avenue lies this wall as a memorial to one of Austin's iconic musicians: Willie Nelson. A singer-songwriter-bandleader extraordinaire, Nelson's career spanned more than four decades as an accomplished vocalist, lyricist, and musician.

Willie Nelson fans must see this iconic mural of him dressed as a cowboy! It has become so beloved, it can even be found on posters, coasters, and t-shirts! Don't miss it for yourself; any fan should stop by!

Next door to Willie for President mural can be found the quirky Smile, Even If You Don't Want To wall. Instagrammers love this must-see spot!

4. Before I Die

Austin is known for its public art, and the Before I Die Wall stands out amongst them all as one of its signature attractions. Decorated by hand-written notes from people sharing their life goals and ambitions, it first debuted at DiverseCity, an affordable housing community in East Austin in 2015.

Candy Chang's global art initiative prompts people to reflect upon mortality. It provides a great starting point for discussion regarding what matters most in your life and serves as an encouraging reminder that we must always strive to become our best selves.

Make a day trip out of it, add your goals, and visit Austin with this unique way of setting goals!
