Roswell Road's Roswell Cafe and lunch spot, hosted by chef-owner Suzanne Vizethann (James Beard Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Fellow and Food Network Chopped winner), offers comforting breakfast and lunch meals that include biscuits, pancakes, pork belly with eggs, chicken waffles, fried green tomatoes, Brunswick stew and griddled cornbread - local favorites among the Roswell neighborhood. However, starting her own restaurant proved more challenging than she imagined!
Now in her debut cookbook, Vizethann shares the recipes that made her place so beloved. There's no tolerance here for cutting corners on ingredients or settling for subpar preparation methods; rather this book brims with refined Southern comfort food from an iconic restaurant.
Welcome to Buttermilk Kitchen is an indispensable cookbook, filled with regional favorites that highlight seasonal ingredients. Vizethann offers creative dishes featuring unexpected spice and flavor combinations and plenty of dishes suitable for either lunch or dinner use; welcome to Buttermilk Kitchen should be on any home cook's bookshelf.
Vizethann's dishes celebrate the Southern table, with tried-and-true breakfast classics like grits and pancakes as well as brunch classics like chicken biscuits or pimento cheese omelets for brunch. And for lunch she serves up classic Southern comfort foods like fried green tomato melts and meatloaf burgers with roasted banana pudding!
At the heart of Buttermilk Kitchen's experience lies a warm and inviting space featuring a spacious wooden bar, traditional tables and plenty of windows, decorated with black-and-white artwork, rustic beams and rich hardwood flooring.
Buttermilk Kitchen's first Long Island location opened its doors in Patchogue last year; owners have since applied to bring a similar establishment to Bay Shore via plans to revamp its exterior facade by selecting from various colors and textured materials for its application.
The restaurant would feature both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a small market featuring homemade desserts such as banana pudding. There are still details to work out with the town regarding colors for facades and window coverings; conditional approval has already been given by East Islip Zoning Board but formal approval from East Islip must still be obtained; they anticipate getting this formal approval at their March 18 Zoning Board meeting.
