Varmblixt, the new lighting collection from IKEA and Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marcelis, invites you to explore how light can transform space and mood. With 20 carefully-crafted products designed with this in mind, varmblixt encourages you to consider different types of lighting as part of your home decor.
IKEA recently unveiled their collection of lighting pieces, as well as other objects like serve ware and rugs that play up light in various ways. In conversation with designboom, Sabine and IKEA Product + Design Manager Henrik Most discussed what inspired their designs and how the brand hopes to bring people closer to their homes through these pieces.
"VARMBLIXT wants to reawaken interest in light and its relationship with the environment through a series of products that play with temperature, color, indirect light sources and reflections," Sabine states. The lighting items such as the VARMBLIXT LED pendant lamp and wall mirror are stunning sculptural objects when turned off but transform into captivating works of light engineering when illuminated."
One of the collection's signature pieces is the round donut-shaped lamp, which resembles an orange doughnut when lit up. This versatile piece can be mounted on a wall or displayed on a tabletop for easy display.
Another product sure to draw attention is this coffee table, which comes in a set of two and can be styled as either a traditional sofa or chair. Crafted out of powder-coated aluminium for an eye-catching candy-inspired aesthetic perfect for those seeking to add some sweetness into their space.
Other products sure to turn heads include hand-tufted 100% wool rugs with an ombre effect. The overlapping styles create the illusion of depth and add visual interest to the rugs, which come in both orange and yellow shades.
These rugs, which can be placed on a dining room table or even the floor, will add some flair and texture to your home without breaking the bank. With various shapes available, you're sure to find one that best suits the space you have available.
These rugs are crafted from the same material as the rest of the collection, making them perfect for spaces with an eclectic aesthetic. Aside from rugs, there's also coffee tables and glassware to match - drink stirrers, Champagne coupes, a carafe, and vases are all included.
Sabine Marcelis' signature shape, the 'donut', can be found in her collection as both a striking glass bowl and wall/table lamp. This curved form has been frequently featured in her designs and its stunning radiance is enhanced when lit, creating an absolutely breathtaking sight.
