J Balvin, known for his bright fashion choices and collaborations with artists like Cardi B, Ozuna and Bad Bunny) embraces diversity when it comes to his music. His latest project Jose explores themes of love, loss and identity; in his own words it attempts to "detach J Balvin the artist from J Balvin the person" through a liberation process that includes voice memos from both parents, praise from friend Daddy Yankee and even sound bites of his first child's heartbeat!
Architectural Digest was invited inside Colombian musician J Balvin's relaxing country mansion in Llano Grande, Antioquia recently. Designed by Medellin-based firm 5 Solidos and boasting minimalist qualities that belie his vibrant persona as an artist; featuring planes of French oak flooring, shoji-like framed linen doors with bamboo inserts for shoji doors, bonsai trees as zen touches, as well as custom display cabinet featuring three of KAWS Companion sculptures by Josh Sperling and Takashi Murakami works adding contemporary edges that provide contrast in this home environment.
With its expansive porch and heated pool amidst lush vegetation, Llano Grande retreat is the ideal place for unwinding and taking in its natural surroundings. J Balvin, also known by his real name of Jose Alvaro Osorio, says this property has become his refuge during recent unrest in his homeland; hosting friends and fans for meals and dance parties on his property regularly.
