Randall Kipp Architecture is a full service architectural studio offering Residential and light Commercial designs. Their modern approach emphasizes open plans made from simple materials; often situated near bodies of water to bring transparency into its surroundings.
This modern waterfront house in White Stone stands atop an engineered fill that raises it five feet above its surrounding terrain for flood protection. Kipp utilized engineered fill to elevate a central block of space painted a deep shade of Polo Blue from Benjamin Moore. This block extends across the water's surface and anchors itself to either pier on either side; creating the illusion of a much larger home while taller flanking masses painted darker shades of blue serve as backdrops, like how dark clothing slimming effects do so well when worn together.
Kipp finds that when clients seek his quote on projects, many already know they want a modern design aesthetic. If this isn't the case for them, he is always upfront in providing honest feedback and will advise that they consult someone else instead.
As Kipp and his team have established themselves in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula areas, they have also shown an affinity for education. Before the COVID pandemic struck, students would visit their studio for tours and lessons on computer-aided architectural design, space planning and interior design; now that it has returned they are also working with students at Chesapeake Academy on projects for its Arts & Innovation Hub.
