Installing a toilet may seem intimidating at first, but the process is actually fairly simple if you follow these simple steps.
At first, you must affix the toilet flange to your bathroom floor. These should come included with your new toilet purchase or you can buy them from home centers and hardware stores.
Place a flat wax ring over the flange collar. Raise and rotate the toilet bowl onto this wax ring, align its holes with those on its base, and lower its base onto it.
If the floor is uneven, use stainless steel washers to level your toilet.
Attach the toilet bowl to its flange by using two closet bolts and plastic bolt caps, fastening by hand for best results; do not overtighten as this could crack the porcelain bowl and be detrimental to its condition.
Use a wrench to tighten each bolt one quarter turn at a time, rotating between both sides of the bowl. When your wrench encounters resistance, stop and allow it to rest until turning is impossible without assistance; this will help prevent your toilet bowl from cracking.
Repeat on the other side and tighten until the bowl is secure. Tip: Be wary of using caulking around the base of the toilet as this may trap water under it and lead to serious floor damage.
Once this step has been completed, your new toilet is ready to be installed!
