How to Install a Backsplash

Kitchen backsplashes are essential features in your home. Not only do they protect walls from splashes, but they can also add decorative flair with mosaic tile designs or other options.

Backsplashes can add a fresh new look to any kitchen while protecting walls from staining and other hazards. But, how can you select an ideal type of backsplash for your home?

Selecting the appropriate tile is key to creating a durable and low maintenance backsplash. Ceramic, porcelain and glass tiles offer excellent solutions that are simple to keep clean and maintain.

Before starting, be sure to inspect your wall thoroughly so the new tile can adhere securely. If there are imperfections in the drywall, an antifracture membrane modified thin-set adhesive might provide the best foundation.

Before purchasing supplies for your tiling project, take measurements of the area you will be covering to keep costs within budget and prevent the waste of any tiles that might get broken during installation. This way you will also ensure any damaged tiles can be salvaged for use elsewhere in your project.

Be sure to measure your backsplash from multiple locations so you can accurately estimate its square footage, which allows for extra tiles in case any errors or small gaps may slip past you.

Installing a backsplash can be done easily and looks fantastic; all it requires are a few simple steps to ensure it's completed successfully and looks its best.
