Hotel Greene exudes an air of mystery and romance, inspired by a painting they found at a flea market. Owners Rick Araluce and Eric Ball wanted to capture that sense of romance through their building's design.
The building's interior is filled with otherworldly charm, featuring miniature scenes and installations created by Araluce throughout the space. Plus, video installations from director Taryn Kosviner, postcards with messages from novelist Sandra Newman and design elements created by Richmond-based artist Leslie Herman add to this immersive experience.
At the hotel, guests can play minigolf or just take a break for some upscale pub food in the restaurant and bar area. The bar features themed cocktails like "Millionaire for an Hour", while guests looking to dine will find everything from steak and potatoes to lobster and more!
Hotel rooms reflect a Shaker aesthetic. The mill work and clean lines of the architecture are replicated in the guestroom furnishings and decor. Furthermore, there are vintage woven baskets and artifacts from local Abenaki Native Americans tribe and north woods culture for added beauty.
Sustainability was a paramount consideration in the design. A 10-acre photovoltaic array on campus provides most of the hotel's energy requirements. Other sustainable features include a geothermal well field and radiant heating/cooling ceiling panels and flooring.
The hotel employs a rainwater/airconditioning system and water-saving plumbing fixtures. It utilizes energy-saving lighting and appliances, as well as efficient layout design to maximize space utilization. Furthermore, the hotel utilizes recycled non-toxic materials and environmentally friendly products in its construction.
