HGTV Dream Home 2023 Winner Dies

January 26, 2024

Beating out all other applicants to win the HGTV Dream Home prize is undoubtedly a bucket-list experience for one lucky family and their loved ones.

Winning the home of one's dreams does not come without its costs; income taxes in particular are an additional burden that can put a serious dent into winners' bank accounts and force them to sell off prized properties in order to cover bills.

Tragedy struck soon after the winner was announced.

Though winning your dream home may sound like something out of a fairy tale, many winners opt to sell them after taking delivery due to taxes and costs associated with winning them. Uncle Sam wants his cut; builders also incur property tax liability when building homes for winners.

Stacey Braswell of Kingsport, Tennessee was absolutely stunned to find out she had won the HGTV Smart Home 2023 in Morrison, Colorado! Surrounded by family, Stacey learned she would receive an extraordinary prize package: an exquisite mountainside retreat designed by Tiffany Brooks as well as an electric Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan and $100,000.

Tragic events marred what was meant to be an occasion of joy and celebration, yet thankfully the network took measures to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again - including adding mental health evaluation and drug screening requirements to future contests which should ensure future winners remain safe.

The winner’s family was devastated.

As soon as this tragedy struck, fans took to social media to offer their sympathy and show support for the winner's family. It serves as a stark reminder of just how precious life can be and the need to cherish each and every moment in our lives.

The HGTV Dream Home Giveaway gives one lucky fan the opportunity to live in a stunning modern home designed by an expert interior designer - plus get a brand new car and $100,000! The competition runs throughout 2019 so be sure to enter!

HGTV recognizes the reality that its winners often cannot keep the homes they win due to a lack of resources necessary for paying high tax bills or maintenance costs incurred from living in these properties. One such winner, Don Cruz who won an Urban Oasis home in 2017, returned much of his prize package upon realizing he could no longer afford to keep it.

Laura Martin, winner of the HGTV Smart Home in 2014, commented that winning it gave her and her family a "better American dream." They used their winnings to purchase both property in Idaho and Belize.

The network took steps to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring in the future.

HGTV's "Dream Home" giveaways have given millions of viewers an incredible opportunity to transform their lives. These homes often include luxurious furnishings and special touches to make everyday living feel like an extravagant vacation experience.

Typically, winners of home giveaways receive both the home and cash as part of their prize, so that they can live out their dreams and benefit from living out a more luxurious lifestyle. But it doesn't always go according to plan; many winners take cash instead or sell their house within a year of winning.

Laura Martin is an impressive example of someone who managed to turn winnings from the 2014 Dream Home contest into something tangible; she purchased an Idaho home using her winnings and split the Yukon Denali into two smaller vehicles for personal use. Even though she never got to live there herself, Laura considers herself fortunate for being given such an opportunity and with her husband purchased land in Belize so they can build another home someday - their story stands as an inspirational reminder to cherish every moment with family members!

The winner’s identity has been withheld.

Over time, many winners of HGTV's home giveaways have been unable to keep their prize homes due to income and property tax obligations; many were forced to sell in order to cover expenses associated with owning such an expensive property right away. It should come as no surprise; most can only afford such costly properties gradually.

Marie found that her dream home would become a game-changer. After entering a contest every day for three years and winning an all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and $100K from Ally Financial. Marie found herself transformed by this opportunity.

HGTV and other sponsors wanted to ensure that the new home owner could enjoy it freely and healthily; thus, mental health evaluation and drug screening requirements have been added for contestants in an attempt to prevent similar tragedies from reoccurring in future competitions.
