How to Paint a Room Without Making it a Mess

Painting a room can be an affordable and quick way to refresh the space, but there are a few considerations you need to keep in mind before beginning this endeavor.

How to Paint a Room Without Making a Mess

One of the biggest errors home DIYers make when painting is making too much mess in a room. To stay away from this trap, here are three easy steps that will keep the paint job tidy.

1. Cleaning Out the Room

Before beginning any painting project, it is best to carefully clean out your room to minimize paint splattering, staining and dripping onto any furniture or accessories in the space. Doing this will prevent paint splats, staining and drips that might occur while painting is underway.

2. Mixing and Sizing Paint

Once you've decided on your color choice, it is crucial that you mix and size your paint accordingly in order to achieve consistent coverage without running out early on. Doing this will guarantee smooth sailing!

3. Testing Paint Colour

Once your paint has been mixed, the next step should be testing its colour swatches in various lighting conditions. One effective approach is painting a small board or foam core for optimal results in this step. By painting these swatches throughout the day and with changing light conditions, you'll get an accurate assessment of its hues.

4. Selecting an Ideal Colour

It is wise to seek professional guidance when it comes to selecting a wall color for yourself. They can offer advice on the hues that complement furniture and decor as well as those best suited to each room's purpose (i.e. whether or not it serves entertainment or work purposes).
