Different Kinds of Spider Plants

Spider plants are among the most adaptable houseplants, easily adding color and vibrancy to homes while remaining low maintenance.

These plants generally prefer warm indirect light with medium air humidity levels and should be kept out of drafts such as air-conditioning vents which could damage their leaves. Regular misting can help ensure optimal humidity.

Variegated

Variegated spider plants make an eye-catching addition to any indoor garden or home, flourishing up to 24 inches tall and spreading equally wide when grown in containers or baskets. Perfect as the focal point of planters or hanging basket combos with green and white plants surrounding it.

Ground covers that thrive outdoors in USDA zones 9-11 can also make excellent houseplants; their upright growth requires additional care than other varieties.

The 'Vittataum' variety has leaves with an off-white stripe running down the center of each green leaf; meanwhile, its counterpart, 'Variegatum' has green stripes on each off-white or cream margin. A solid green variety may also exist but may be harder to come across due to being less common; solid green spider plants tend to be healthier as there is less area without chlorophyll present and they require less maintenance overall.

Solid

Variegated varieties of spider plants aren't the only options when it comes to solid green spider plants; those without off-white or yellow stripes on their leaves are known as solid green varieties and offer equally beautiful and low maintenance experience as their striped counterparts. Airplane spider plants, for instance, offer great visual interest even in your smaller spaces by simply curling their leaves gently for added visual impact.

As with other spider plants, these ones require a well-draining soil mix that should remain slightly damp without overwatering, with temperatures and humidity levels within normal household limits. Fertilization should take place up to twice monthly during spring and summer - just take care not to overfertilize! Healthy green spider plants produce pups which can be cut away and planted again as new plants - this way your collection can expand naturally without needing new pots!

Drought Tolerant

Spider plants are easy to care for houseplants that don't require too much attention or nutrients; they require little maintenance, non-toxic soil moisture levels, bright indirect lighting and some consistent moisture in their environment to thrive. When watered regularly during their summer growing season and kept away from drafts, you should witness healthy fast growth with plenty of Spider Babies emerging as you see fast results!

As your plants may come from warmer climates, cold water may come as a shock. When watering, make sure that all soil areas have been fully saturated.

Chlorophytum comosum's all green variety makes an eye-catching statement in any garden, yet is slightly more sensitive to dryness than its variegated relatives and will show signs of drought during spring if there is not enough moisture provided. Still, with moderate watering it should thrive.

Easy To Maintain

Chlorophytum comosum varieties make excellent houseplants due to their relatively easy care needs and lighting requirements. Preferring indirect light with well-draining soil, these houseplants thrive indoors or can even be placed outside in warmer climates.

Repotting is not often required of these plants, but when their roots become overly rootbound they must be repotted. When this time comes, use a slightly larger pot.

Water your plant using room temperature or distilled water and avoid fluoridated water as this can contribute to the buildup of salt in the soil. Water only when necessary; avoid letting too much run off, which could result in brown tip leaves and cause mold growth.

Ocean spider plants require higher humidity levels than other Chlorophytum comosum species and should be placed on a tray of pebbles to increase this condition. In addition, they need regular misting with distilled water in order to keep their foliage looking vibrant.
