Condominium Kitchen Designs

June 6, 2023

Condo living often means tighter spaces, so homeowners must make smart decisions when renovating. A well-designed kitchen can create an effective and inviting living environment.

Modern kitchens are beloved spaces, renowned for their sleek appearance and seamless functionality. A fresh coat of paint and simple backsplash can give any condominium kitchen an instantaneous modern makeover.

Galley

A galley kitchen (commonly referred to as corridor kitchen) is an attractive choice for condominium living, incorporating two parallel rows of cabinets and appliances with space in the middle for movement.

Curved edge cabinets such as those found in Sheilaja and Sergio's sleek kitchen create an inviting atmosphere, and make the space more functional for their tight living quarters. Sheilaja and Sergio chose white hued custom cabinets that add brightness while maintaining orderliness - Sheilaja painted theirs a classic white shade to brighten up their layout and help keep cabinets looking tidy.

Kickboard lighting can also help enliven a galley kitchen, eliminating shadows and creating an impression of more space in the room.

Addition of a peninsula can add additional counter space for food prep or as a breakfast bar, making this ideal for condominiums with limited floorspace. Glazed wall units like those seen here by @mycosyterrace allow light to filter throughout the room while breaking up banks of storage.

Single Wall

If your condo is small, a single wall kitchen design might be the best fit. This layout places the cooking area adjacent to the living area for optimal efficiency and space efficiency.

Modern styles make an excellent choice for condo kitchens, thanks to their sleek appearance that is easy to maintain and complements other elements within a small space. Avoid bulky details like crown molding and wainscoting to keep the look light and airy.

Peninsula kitchen designs are also increasingly popular in condominiums, adding extra counter space and providing the option for breakfast nook or eat-in kitchen use. This type of layout works great if you don't cook often or want your condo kitchen as an entryway into other parts of the home.

U-Shaped

U-shaped kitchens are versatile three-sided designs that maximize storage potential while remaining accessible for everyday tasks. This type of layout works well in smaller eat-in spaces or expansive trough-shaped layouts.

An L-shaped kitchen can become overwhelming quickly when its cabinets cover all three walls, so consider choosing floor-to-ceiling cabinetry instead. A mix of open shelving and closed cabinetry may offer greater balance as it gives you the option of showing off decor while hiding clutter behind door-fronts.

Some homeowners, particularly in larger homes, prefer using a dining table as one end of a U-shaped space in place of a kitchen island to promote connectivity and ensure soft back support compared to bar chairs on a long countertop. Contrasting seating colors can help define separate sections in an open concept condo dining area while adding sophistication with sleek countertops and cabinets for this versatile layout.

L-Shaped

An L-shaped kitchen provides you with maximum flexibility in your home. Ideal for condos that incorporate open plan concepts, its multiple purposes make it a smart choice.

This layout can work wonders in small rooms by optimizing space and offering efficiency. Appliances can be stored against one wall to free up additional storage and counter space in the center. Furthermore, this design works especially well in rooms that include doorways to avoid overlapped traffic in the space.

Modern condo kitchens use sleek lines and trending colors to create an uncluttered and fresh appearance, with glass or full-height backsplashes helping create an illusion of space and lightness. When possible, opt for an open concept condo kitchen which opens onto living and dining areas - this makes hosting guests easier while socializing together!
