5 Effective Lizard Repellents

Lizard repellents can be an effective way to keep lizards from entering your home or yard. They are generally safe to use around pets and children.

Sprays can typically cover 200 square feet per 32-ounce container, while granules provide an even larger barrier. Just a thin line of granules can protect a broad area up to several acres in size.

Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil is one of the most effective lizard repellents available. It has a strong, overpowering scent that lizards simply can’t tolerate.

If you have an area of your garden that lizards like to frequent, plant fresh peppermint or eucalyptus near the entrance. These plants will discourage lizards from visiting your property, and may even help keep them away from your food garden.

Another effective method is to spray an essential oil diffuser that has a peppermint fragrance with warm water. You can also use a natural peppermint spray, such as Exterminators Choice Lizard Defense Spray.

These sprays contain a blend of essential oils, including peppermint, clove, and cinnamon. They’re not as toxic to humans or other animals as some chemical solutions, and they can be a much safer option than toxic insecticides.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a natural insect repellent with a pleasant aroma. The plant contains a chemical called para-menthane-3,8-diol, or PMD, which makes mosquitoes and other insects dislike it.

In addition, eucalyptus oil can help to keep you from catching a cold or flu because it has antimicrobial properties that stimulate your immune system. It also soothes chest congestion and relieves respiratory problems.

Another benefit of eucalyptus is its ability to kill scale insects like aphids, whiteflies and mites. Simply apply a mixture of eucalyptus oil and water to your plants to deter these pests.

A dilution of 1/4 teaspoon of eucalyptus oil to one cup of water can be used as an insect repellent. This dilution should be reapplied every three days to ensure it remains effective.

Citronella

Citronella is a plant that’s often found in garden centers and can help prevent lizards from entering your home. It also helps keep the environment safe from insect infestations.

You can grow a citronella plant in your yard or in a container at home for year-round protection. You can also mix it with other essential oils to make a spray that you can use around your house.

This plant also produces a powerful odor that lizards just can’t stand, and it’s a great addition to your garden or as a potted plant indoors.

If you want to get the most out of your citronella, it’s important to choose a plant with healthy, strong leaves. It’s also better to find a plant that has a more open root structure than one with tightly matted roots.

Garlic

Garlic has a strong odour that irritates pests. It is an excellent lizard repellent that can be used as a DIY spray. You can also keep garlic cloves in your kitchen or other lizard-prone areas of the house.

Another method for keeping lizards away from your home is to dispose of any leftover food and scraps. This will prevent a lot of lizards from entering your house.

You can also place naphthalene balls in the corners of your home, doors, and windows to keep them away. These will drive away lizards and other pests as well, although it is important to be careful about where you put them, especially if there are small children in the home.

Another good lizard repellent is the smell of garlic and onions. The odour is so pungent that lizards can’t stand it and will avoid entering the area.
