Varieties of Yucca

Whether you want to plant a yucca in your garden or as a container plant, there are many varieties that you can choose from. These plants have colorful foliage and are hardy enough to grow in tropical climates. They are also useful for making soap, rope, and kindling. They are also edible.

Some yuccas have sword-shaped leaves that range from one to a few inches long. Others are fruiting, producing large white flowers that are attractive to bees. You can eat the immature fruit or use it for cooking. A dried yucca fruit can last for several months. When the fruits are cooked, they become sweet and can be a delicious meal. Yucca fruit is also used in smoothies and can be blended into flour for baking purposes. During the growing season, the variegated edging of the foliage transitions from deep gold to creamy white.
