How to Style a Credenza

No matter if you've inherited a family heirloom or purchased a new credenza to fill an area, styling your credenza can make all the difference in its overall design. Here are some ideas for creating a look that is uniquely you and the space in which it resides.

Keep it Simple: Don't feel obligated to go overboard when styling your credenza. Just add one or two decorative items that really pop and add a sense of flair to the room.

For instance, a tall glass vase filled with eucalyptus or pine cones can make your credenza appear larger and cozier. Similarly, filling up a large plant pot with various plants is another effective way to brighten things up.

Add a Gallery Wall Above Your Credenza: When decorating your credenza with art, consider adding a gallery wall above it for visual interest and extra surface area to display photos, kiddo drawings or other pieces of artwork without needing additional decor or furniture. This will give the room a polished look without adding extra items like cabinets or shelves.

Utilize a Variety of Photos: When selecting photos for your piece, mix up the hues to avoid feeling too cluttered. For instance, if you've chosen black and white images to emphasize it, include some vibrant color photos for contrast.

You could opt for a mix of photos that feature people or animals for an eclectic style. Another possibility would be selecting similar themed photos and using various frames to bind them all together.

Create a more vibrant room by mixing up your colors. For instance, if your living room decor is predominantly all-black or all-white, add some pops of yellow or red to the gallery wall above your credenza.

Add a Rug Under Your Credenza: Doing so can protect the surface from scratches when moving items around in your room. Plus, it adds texture and depth to the room.

Stack Books and Organize Other Small Decor: Your credenza can be used to store books, candles or other smaller decor items that don't have a home elsewhere in the room. Doing this makes them easier to locate and keep organized.

Don't forget to arrange books and other decor with an eye for balance. Having too many books or objects on the credenza can create a cluttered appearance that feels overwhelming.

Place Your Credenza Next to a Window or Door Frame: This will make the piece of furniture appear more prominent and provide stability in the room. Alternatively, place it against an expanse of white wall for greater integration into the overall design scheme.

Next, place a lamp atop the credenza to brighten up the room. This will give it an overall unified aesthetic and also provide much-needed light during those dark winter months.
