Your indoor windows may be regularly cleaned, but outdoor ones often fall through the cracks despite our best intentions of maintaining them regularly. Pollen, raindroplets, road salt chemicals from passing cars and sap-producing trees as well as birds nests may accumulate, leaving an unsightly stain or murky streaks behind that require cleaning to restore. Also, neglect can lead to early damage or failure of glass panes that result from neglectful maintenance practices.
Outdoor windows can be cleaned just like interior ones--with the right tools and technique, you can have crystal clear exterior windows quickly. Prep is key when it comes to cleaning exterior windows: start by sweeping away debris on window sill and frame using either a broom or vacuum dusting attachment; scraper away any remaining debris with scraper tool (yes it works!); for smaller spots mayonnaise can even help! stains or stickers you can rub them off with damp, lint-free cloth or black-and-white newspaper pages!
Next, use your garden hose fitted with a stream sprayer attachment to hose down your windows. To use a commercial window cleaner, combine its solution with clean water in a bucket until it forms sudsy bubbles; dip a brush or sponge into this solution, scrub away, then rinse away thoroughly using your garden hose set to water-only mode; wipe dry using a squeegee attached to a telescoping extension pole or work in sections by starting in one corner and working your way horizontally towards its center; be sure that each stroke overlaps by about 2-inches between each stroke; be careful that each stroke overlaps slightly between strokes to maintain proper cleaning results!
