February 26, 2024

frank lloyd wright homes for sale

Wright properties are becoming available for sale nationwide. Within New York City proper, only one such home exists but travel just an hour or two outside and you'll discover several more designed by this architect.

Each house reflects the architect's vision of integrating nature with architecture. From the concrete block Samuel and Dorothy Eppstein House to Usonian Eric and Pat Pratt House, all embody his or her architectural philosophy of connecting man with nature.

Coonley Playhouse

Wright designed this playhouse originally as a kindergarten but it later was converted into a single-family residence in 1919. Boasting some of his signature window designs including stylized balloons, confetti and American flags it's sure to draw architecture enthusiasts' interest.

Last summer, Susan Shipper-Smith and Ted Smith successfully bought and restored Coonley Playhouse, located in Riverside. This restoration process took decades.

Wright's property marks an early example of his "zoned planning," an approach to architecture which divides space based on function. It would serve as an inspiration for his later projects like Robie House and other Prairie-style residences, including his later Prairie residences like Robie House. Furthermore, this property marks his aesthetic's evolution - through experiments like broad overhanging eaves with wide overhanging eaves, bands of art glass casement windows, harmonious integration between landscape and structure and its price of $800,000. Coonley Stable

The Coonley Stable was constructed for Avery and Queene Ferry Coonley between 1908-1912. Featuring a Coach House, Gardener's Cottage and surrounding gardens - one of Wright's more elaborate Prairie School designs -- as well as his innovative use of zoned living areas that would become his signature trait in later work - the complex was his debut of zoned living spaces as an element in residential design.

Wright used natural materials and geometric forms in his living spaces to create an indoor sylvan environment, complete with murals designed by Wright's interior architect George Niedecken featuring fern motifs.

Home at 281 Bloomingbank Road in Riverside with an asking price of $1.8 million can be found through Baird & Warner listing service; additional Frank Lloyd Wright properties on the market include David and Gladys Wright House in Phoenix and Neils House in Minneapolis.

Socrates Zaferiou House

Socrates Zaferiou House stands on the West Bank of the Hudson in Blauvelt, New York and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for developer Marshall Erdman during the 1950s. The modified Usonian-style residence offers four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms along with an oversized masonry fireplace and wood paneling throughout.

This property boasts a walk-out basement with tall ceilings - something not found in Wright's original Usonian style - according to its listing. Overall, the 2,600-square-foot home features an L-shaped open floor plan, large window expanses and Red Wright flooring as signature elements.

Socrates Zaferiou, former banquet manager at the Plaza Hotel, purchased this home in 2014 with the intent to maintain Wright's features and enjoy them himself and his wife while looking for someone else who might appreciate it as much. His asking price of just under $1 Million makes this property relatively accessible compared to similar Wright properties on the market.

Neils House

Wright began exploring his Usonian housing concept during the 1950s. Working closely with patrons to craft homes that met Wright's goal of "affordable yet beautiful housing for democratic America", one such Usonian house designed for Frieda and Henry Neils is currently for sale.

Neils House in Minneapolis stands on Cedar Lake and features Frank Lloyd Wright's post-World War II Usonian style with features like marble walls and aluminum window framing - uncommon elements in Wright designs.

This open-plan living area features floor to ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, providing ample opportunities for relaxing or entertainment. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and currently listed for $2,750k, visit here for more information about this home which is being sold through a real estate co-operative.
